Poetry and creative writing

When writers aren’t busy writing in Poole there are a variety of opportunities available for them to meet others or simply learn more about their craft.

Writing groups

Lit Up! - Working across Bournemouth and Poole, this new group has been set up to support writers and develop literature across the conurbation. The group features arts development officers, librarians, writers and adult learning managers. They run various events. Contact: Marianne Scahill at Poole Arts Development for further details.

Poole Poetry Group meets at the Fourways Centre, Constitution Hill Road, Poole @ 7.30pm, every other Wednesday. The Poole Poetry Group brings together like minded people who have a wish or desire to write poetry; whether it is for fun, therapy or to be published.

Poole Writers Circle – a group of writers who meet fortnightly on a Wednesday evening in central Poole. The group offers members the opportunity to hear speakers, enter competitions + receive that all important mutual support and encouragement with their writing.

South Poetry Magazine - Although not a group as such, it does have a launch at various venues
with readings for their two publication dates in April/May and October/November.

Speakeasy Group - The Speakeasy Group aims to promote writing in any form and offers
writers and performers an opportunity to read out their own or other people’s work before an appreciative audience, or to simply go along to listen. They meet on the last Monday of the month in the Allen Room of the Community and Resource Centre, King Street, Wimborne at 7.15 for
7.30pm.The cost is usually £2. Contact: Anne Clegg
