Current TAP projects

The Arts Poole is an artist-led organization and depends on the enthusiasm of its supporters to get things done. We aim to improve the local arts scene and encourage and support others who share this objective.

Those who have got most out of TAP to date were those who have committed to putting on events or helping in some other way. The old adage "you get out what you put in" was never truer.

We welcome any ideas you may have for projects which you wish to see happen. If they fit with our objectives we will consider actioning them. Alternatively, if you are seeking advice or a collaboration, we will help if we can.

Arts centre

Poole and Bournemouth lack suitable spaces for local artists to develop their work.

Although the Lighthouse was originally set up as Poole's Centre for the Arts with a remit to foster art at all levels, it has shifted its priorities away from locally-produced art over the years. We would like to see the Lighthouse return to its original ideals.

An alternative or complementary solution would be to establish a centre for locally-produced art - a flexible space where performances and exhibitions could take place in a dynamic but friendly atmosphere.

meth2We have looked at the Swan pub near the Quay but it did not really suit and has, in any case, now been let. We are looking at other options. One includes the old Methodist Church just off the High Street (behind the new one - see pictures on this page) which is scheduled for demolition despite it being structurally sound and part of Poole's history having been built in 1793 - OUTRAGEOUS! Can we stop this development and save it for us and Poole?

meth3If you would like to help us find a potential venue and build support for this venture, please contact us. Of particular usefulness would be experts on how to convert buildings to cater for the general public while meeting modern safety and other legal requirements. Of course we would also need to source funding so if you know anybody with financial resources who is interested in the arts, please let us know.

Busking and street arts

We are currently exploring ways of encouraging busking and other street entertainment in Poole.

Community projects

We consider it important to link artists more closely with local communities. We are currently investigating a number of potential community projects.

Professionals' profile

We are planning an event to promote professional artists in the area.
